Constraints from Innation on Scalar{tensor Gravity Theories

چکیده

We show how observations of the perturbation spectra produced during innation may be used to constrain the parameters of general scalar-tensor theories of gravity, which include both an innaton and dilaton eld. An interesting feature of these models is the possibility that the curvature perturbations on super-horizon scales may not be constant due to non-adiabatic perturbations of the two elds. Within a given model, the tilt and relative amplitude of the scalar and tensor perturbation spectra gives constraints on the parameters of the gravity theory, which may be comparable with those from primordial nucleosynthesis and post-Newtonian experiments.

Constraints on Scalar-tensor Theories of Gravity from Density Perturbations in Innationary Cosmology

Spectra of density perturbations produced during chaotic innation in scalar-tensor theories of gravity are calculated, taking both adiabatic and isocurva-ture modes into account. Comparing the predicted spectrum of the cosmic microwave background radiation anisotropies with the one observed by the COBE-DMR we calculate constraints on the parameters of these theories, which turn out to be strong...

Constraints from inflation on scalar-tensor gravity theories.

We show how observations of the perturbation spectra produced during inflation may be used to constrain the parameters of general scalar-tensor theories of gravity, which include both an inflaton and dilaton field. Constraining f(R) Gravity as a Scalar-Tensor Theory

We search for viable f R theories of gravity, making use of the equivalence between such theories and scalar-tensor gravity. We find that models can be made consistent with solar system constraints either by giving the scalar a high mass or by exploiting the so-called chameleon effect. However, in both cases, it appears likely that any late-time cosmic acceleration will be observationally indis...

Strong Constraints on Cosmological Gravity from GW170817 and GRB 170817A.

The detection of an electromagnetic counterpart (GRB 170817A) to the gravitational-wave signal (GW170817) from the merger of two neutron stars opens a completely new arena for testing theories of gravity. We show that this measurement allows us to place stringent constraints on general scalar-tensor and vector-tensor theories, while allowing us to place an independent bound on the graviton mass...

Gravitational Wave Memory: A New Approach to Study Modified Gravity

It is well known that two types of gravitational wave memory exist in general relativity (GR): the linear memory and the non-linear, or Christodoulou memory. These effects, especially the latter, depend on the specific form of Einstein equation. It can then be speculated that in modified theories of gravity, the memory can differ from the GR prediction, and provides novel phenomena to study the...
